The life story of Avic, or Tim Bergling, is an example of how quickly a talented person can rise to fabulous success and how quickly everything can collapse.
Stockholm
In April 2018 was signs of improvement.
Tim Bergling, 28, had overcome drug addiction, recovered from severe exhaustion, and was excited about the future.
The world knew him as Avicii, but now he finally had time to be something other than a world star appearing in front of giant audiences. Now he had time to be Tim from Stockholm.
Bergling had retired from the stage for health reasons two years earlier, but new music was still being born. He had just sent new songs for his parents to listen to from their vacation in Oman on the Arabian Peninsula.
Bergling’s mother Anki Lidén messageed his son:
“It may be already on the side of babbling… But I love your many new songs, they’re so damn good!”
The boy replied a couple of hours later:
“I love you mom!” he wrote.
“Oman is absolutely fantastic! Miss and hit !! ”
It was April 16, 2018, and Bergling had sent the last message of his life to his mother. In four days, Bergling would commit suicide.
Tuesday published by a Swedish journalist Måns Mosessonin written by Tim – Avic biography (translated by Tarja Lipponen), which sheds light on Tim Bergling’s life and last days.
Mosesson has accessed extensive material from Bergling’s correspondence for the book, including more than 40,000 emails, text messages, Whatsapp conversations, and Bergling’s own notes. Through them and over a hundred interviews, Mosesson paints a picture of the life of a talented Swedish, during which Bergling reformed electronic dance music and quickly became a world star.
The book project began in 2019 when Mosesson met Bergling’s parents Klas Berglingin and Anki Lidén at their winter residence in Las Palmas. Based on the meeting, Mosesson made an extensive article for the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
The parents then asked if Mosesson could write a biography of their son.
“They thought the worst thing that could have happened to them had already happened,” Mosesson says.
“Tim can’t get it back, nothing can change it. As part of the grief work, they thought they should talk so that something good could come out of the terrible experience. ”
Through Bergling’s life, the book also deals with mental health problems, drug addiction, and the pressures of modern times. The parents who inherited their son’s property have also set up a foundation named after Bergling, which focuses on the prevention of mental health problems and suicides.
“The theme of the book says something bigger about our time. Why are so many of me or Tim’s so ill? Mental problems are increasing at an alarming rate in the West, ”says Mosesson.
Bergling was born in 1989, author Mosesson in 1983.
Tim Bergling’s life is intertwined with the explosive success made possible by social media and the internet and the pressures they create. The book describes how Twitter posts commenting on the appearance of the pop star and the bouts of the British press harass Bergling and how he browses the Youtube viewership meter and regrets why the music video only has seven million views.
The book describes the pace of work required to succeed, which eventually grows too hard, drug addiction, and the collapse of mental health. At the same time, it is a description of an exceptional talent, a young man who was able to overcome his problems and find peace in his mind, for a moment.
One turning point in Bergling’s life was when she had a seizure during a U.S. tour in 2012. She was hospitalized in Manhattan, where she was prescribed a synthetic opioid called Oxycontin as a painkiller.
He soon became addicted to the drug, which was also causing a nationwide opioid crisis.

When Bergling was in the hospital, he said he had improved.
“Those days at the hospital were the least distressing and stressful of the entire last six years. Those days were my real holiday, although it sounds depressing. ”, he wrote.
Bergling was in the middle of a gig tube, during which he was able to perform at two gigs the same night, in two different countries. He could get half a million euros from one gig.
And Bergling wanted it. He wanted success, though he didn’t feel comfortable in front of people, but had to numb himself with alcohol before performing. Addiction had also arisen to sedative opioids.
The success brought financial freedom, which allowed them to buy a $ 15 million home in the hills of Hollywood and renovate it to their liking. And the freedom in which one could get tired of Hollywood and wonder if one would buy the old home of the King of Sweden from Norra Djurgården after all. Bergling also considered buying a castle from some European country for himself.
Second a turning point in Bergling’s life occurred at the end of 2015 when she began a course of treatment at an addiction nursing home in Ibiza.
According to the author Måns Mosesson, Bergling finally got peace in the nursing home, and during the treatment period, Bergling’s thinking and self-awareness developed in a revolutionary way. Shortly after the treatment period in 2016, she said she would stop touring with Avicin. Instead, he would focus on producing music.
“In the nursing home, he wrote about his life and made accurate observations. He began to think radically differently. He no longer shifted his emotions aside, but went towards them, including negative emotions. He realized that negative emotions also mean good in essence, ”Mosesson describes.
When Bergling stopped touring, his health started to improve. He said he had never felt as happy as when he decided to quit.
He had big plans and credit for the future, although his acquaintances sometimes worried about the star’s constant smoking of cannabis. California had recently legalized the recreational use of cannabis, and it could be ordered by home delivery. Bergling himself said cannabis helped him with anxiety and opened up new creative paths to making music.
He also fell in love with psychedelics and tried to eat psychedelic mushrooms. They helped solve the mysteries of existence, but also caused bad trips.
“A style that I understand the universe but that is heavy when I don’t realize”, he wrote to a friend after a bad trip.
“It feels a bit like going crazy.”
Bergling released his last picture on Instagram on April 4, 2018. In the picture, he is in his Hollywood home.
Tim Bergling’s life ended on April 20, 2018 in Oman.
Bergling was planning new music and seemed excited. He planned to rent a hotel in South Kenya National Park to fly musicians to work with local country musicians.
Before that, however, he left for Oman for a week. The party was about ten people, but none of Tim’s close friends, according to the book, had time to travel.
Bergling’s last moments are told in the book through his parents.
Bergling had stayed in Oman after the rest of the party had already left. He met a man there with whom he spent time. In the book, the man is called Amer.
On Thursday, April 19, Bergling’s father Klas Bergling received a call from a number he did not know.
The caller introduced himself as Amer and said he met Tim Bergling in a desert tent camp. Since Bergling had still wanted to stay in the country, Amer had offered him accommodation on his family’s farms.
In recent days, however, Amer had begun to worry about the well-being of his guests. Bergling had become passive and introverted, no longer eating or talking. He answered the questions by writing, Amer said.
Dad’s concern began to grow.
In addition, Bergling had injured himself and had to be hospitalized for a patch. Amer said he would cancel his trip and keep a close eye on his guest in the future.
The parents decided to leave Las Palmas for Oman. However, they would not arrive until Saturday. They waited nervously for the flights to depart and could not sleep.
The next day, Klas Bergling’s phone rang. From the caller’s tone of voice, the father immediately concluded that the son was dead.
Måns Mosesson describes Tim Bergling as an idealist who wanted to help the world.
“He had a lot of plans. He wanted to develop computer games, he wanted to bring people together to consider big questions. He wondered why mental health issues were not discussed in schools. Why do we have housework, physics and math, but we’re not talking about why we can’t sleep at night, ”Mosesson says.
A lot was left out, but a lot was left alive. Mosesson believes that Avicii music will be listened to and interpreted for a long time to come.
According to statistics from the Swedish music service Spotify, Avici has more than 27 million monthly listeners.
