Phillip Island is the scene of the last round of the season and Alvaro Bautista arrives in Australia fresh from his world title. The Spaniard returns to the track where he made his debut in the production-derived three years ago, immediately signing the hat-trick and standing as one of the great favourites. In 2019 he was unable to materialize immediately, but after three seasons he arrives on the track where it all started as a world champion.
The games are over, but the desire to do well is not and there is still one title at stake: the builders’ ones. The defending champion heads to Phillip Island determined to end a nearly perfect season with another flicker. The layout of the track is well suited to the Panigale V4R, which three years ago already proved to be competitive. The four-cylinder is even better and the goal for the weekend is clear.
“We arrive at the last race of the season at Phillip Island, one of the most beautiful tracks, not surprisingly among the favorites of many riders. At the same time, however, it’s a difficult, demanding track that doesn’t allow for the slightest distraction. We arrive very motivated after winning the Championship: our mentality doesn’t change. I hope to have a lot of fun and try to finish the season in the best possible way,” said Bautista.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi is also enthusiastic about racing at Phillip Island, to end a complicated season in the best possible way. The Romagna rider is aiming for a great result in the last weekend of 2022 and it will also be a fundamental round for him to contribute to Ducati’s wonderful year.
“It is useless to hide that this is among the most beautiful tracks in the world and it is nice to be able to finish the season right here. It’s the last race and after Alvaro’s victory it would be nice to be able to celebrate with him on the podium. Let’s hope the weather will be kind. Racing in dry conditions is beautiful on this track,” explained Rinaldi.
