The orca stopped following the surprised fishermen when they set off towards the port of Topolobampo, located in the municipality of Ahome, Sinaloa.
This is not the first time that fishermen in the area have seen this species of marine mammal, since in November 2021 a group of killer whales surprised the crew of a small boat off El Farallón Island. That sighting was also documented on video.
Despite the fact that sightings of killer whales on the Sinaloa coast are increasingly common, it is still a strange case because these almost two-meter-long cetaceans usually inhabit the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean.
