Mexico City- Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that it will stop the sale of PlayStation consoles and video games in Russia, in response to the invasion in Ukraine.
In a statement, SIE launched a call for the restoration of peace in the country.
“We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7 and PlayStation Store operations in Russia.”
He also announced that he will donate two million dollars to the UN Refugee Agency and to the Save The Children organization, in order to support the victims of this tragedy.
In recent days, the Government of Ukraine called various technology firms, including PlayStation, to stop their services in Russia, in response to the invasion of Ukraine, which has left hundreds of victims and has forced millions of people to leave their homes in the conflict zone.
Thus, PlayStation joins other brands that have suspended their operations in Russia.
Last Friday, Microsoft halted sales of its products and services in the country, including its video game subscription service.
A day later, Epic Games, developers of the multiplayer Fortnite, stated that it stopped its “trade with Russia”, but its games are still active in said territory, since “the free world must keep all lines of dialogue open”.
