Bruganelli tells how he discovered that little Silvia had heart problems in the eighth month of pregnancy
A moving story that of Sonia Bruganelli who recently shared her thoughts on daughter Silvia Bonolis. The young woman was born in December 2002, and a post on Instagram clarifies in detail what happened when the girl was not yet born. “Thank you for loving me even when I couldn’t,” wrote Bruganelli.
At the ‘Corriere della Sera’, the ex-partner of Paolo Bonolis, beloved television presenter, explained the meaning of his words towards his daughter. It wasn’t an easy pregnancy and, above all, it wasn’t an easy outcome to deal with.
I’ve now accepted that I’m an imperfect mother, and that’s okay. Silvia has always loved me, even when I couldn’t love myself and felt guilty for her condition, which was different from that of her brothers. Since I was little, when she saw me sad, she would point to her eye as if to ask: why are you crying?
This is his relationship with Silvia, certainly marked by the awareness of being able and having to face the health problems that have marked this very young girl. “I have undertaken a long journey to enjoy motherhood without feeling obligated […] For a long time I fought with guilt and anger,” says Bonolis’ ex-wife. In the interview you also reveal that you have always perceived the Silvia’s disease as an injustice.
Bruganelli tells how he discovered that little Silvia had heart problems in the eighth month of pregnancy, when everything is usually ready and nothing is expected other than the new arrival. The doctors clearly said: ‘If you don’t have surgery as soon as you are born, you will die.’ Silvia, in fact, immediately underwent heart surgery. The damage caused by postoperative hypoxia was discovered a week later. At the time, Silvia’s mother was 27 years old and her newborn was her first child: “During the pregnancy I hadn’t done anything wrong, I had been careful. Paolo was 40 years old and took care of everything,” recalls Bruganelli. Silvia will turn 22 next December, but her mother confesses her concerns:
I would like her to go and have fun with her friends in the evening. I often think about her future, because she is not yet self-sufficient and will always need assistance. However, she will never be alone, because she has four brothers.
The family does their best for theirs physical and motor independence, on self-perception and self-esteem. On the separation, Sonia Bruganelli explained: “Paolo and I live in two apartments connected by a terrace. She is our bond. Now I am much closer to her than when we lived in the same apartment, Paolo and I upstairs and her with her brothers below her.”
