The White House press service reported that this date was chosen so that the United States could resume arms supplies to Ukraine this week.

As a result of the vote, the US Senate passed a bill on foreign assistance to Washington's allies, including Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The document was supported by 75 people, 17 senators spoke out against it.

On April 20, the US House of Representatives also adopted a draft of additional assistance to Ukraine worth almost $61 billion. The bill was supported by 311 congressmen, another 112 were against it.
Thus, both houses of Congress approved the bill. Now it will go to the President of the United States for signature.
Zelensky thanked the USA
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed gratitude to the American senators who approved the allocation of $60.64 billion in military assistance to Kyiv. The Ukrainian leader thanked “all Americans” who recognize “that the historical significance of this bill goes beyond politics.”
This vote strengthens the role of the United States as a beacon of democracy and leader of the free world.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, in turn, said that he expects Washington to continue to support Kyiv “for peace and security in Europe.”
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, also thanked the United States. The head of the department also demanded that European Union (EU) officials stop discussions and provide air defense systems to the republic.

The head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner, said that the new aid package will also include long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles.
According to him, the American administration has been preparing for the last two months to transfer long-range fire weapons, such as ATACMS, to the Ukrainian side. The corresponding provision is spelled out in the bill approved the day before.
