Cristina Frazzica, the woman struck and killed in her kayak received her final farewell today in Voghera: the parish priest called for justice amid the tears of bystanders
The loss of Cristina Frazzica continues to spark tears and indignation among relatives, friends and the scientific community. The young researcher, passionate about kayaking and a lover of the sea, lost her life when she was hit by a boat while she was off the coast of Posillipo, in Naples. The circumstances of the accident are still at the center of investigations, with investigators looking for evidence to prove that the driver of the seized cabin cruiser was responsible.
Cristina’s funeral, celebrated this morning in the Cathedral of Voghera, her hometown, took place in the presence of an emotional crowd who wanted to pay homage to her. The ceremony, accompanied by the Città di Voghera band, saw the participation of the mayor Paola Garlaschelli and representatives of associations such as the Red Cross, in which the girl had served together with her sister.
Don Cristiano Orezzi underlined the need to find justice for Cristina and to fight the rancor and hatred that can creep into the hearts of people affected by a similar event. During the heartfelt homily the priest declared:
“We need the hearts of all of us to be filled with a sense of justice.”
The autopsy and investigations
Cristina could have died instantly: this was revealed by the autopsy that lasted 5 hours, which confirmed that the cause of death could have been the impact with the propellers of the boat that overwhelmed her while she was in a kayak.
The Frazzica family, originally from Taurianova in the province of Reggio Calabria but who moved to Voghera many years ago, relied on the Giesse Risarcimento Danni company and the lawyer Gianluca Giordano of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere to seek justice for the death of the young relative. The party’s consultant is the medical examiner Maurizio Saliva. The family requests that full light be shed on what happened.
The investigations carried out by the Port Authority and coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office subjected the cabin of the suspect, the Neapolitan criminal lawyer, to inspection Guido Furgiuele. The professional declared that he did not realize the impact and that he intervened only after receiving reports from a guest on his boat. Today some assessments were carried out on the researcher’s canoe.
Another forensic analysis on the kayak is scheduled for Monday, in the hope of being able to definitively clarify the dynamics of this tragedy which shocked the lives of all those who knew the young student from Naples. Other checks are planned in the coming days which will concern the depth and optical perspective of the driver, in the hope of shedding light on the matter and doing justice to the young researcher loved by all.
