Vice President Geraldo Alckmin stated, this Saturday, the 15th, that the government intends to cut expenses in the short, medium and long term. The statements took place at an event held by the Federation of Cargo Transport Companies of the State of São Paulo (FETCESP). According to Alckmin, there is still no date for the government to present the proposals, but the measures must be publicized.
“There is no definition of a date yet, but the fact is that we must try to have cuts in the short term, measures that have resulted faster, in the medium and long term”, he declared to journalists.
Alckmin added: “Because you price it. Even if there is a measure that will extend over several years, it is brought to present value”. The vice president also stated that with “a better fiscal policy” there will be cheaper interest rates and economic growth.
At the time, he also defended the approval of tax reform regulations in the National Congress and said that “the most difficult thing has been done” in relation to the general law enacted at the end of last year.
“We are optimistic. The path is dialogue”, said Alckmin. “Nothing is easy, but showing, arguing… and politics is not obligatory: it is convinced, it is conquered. And we do this with dialogue.”
The regulation of tax reform is under analysis by working groups in the Chamber of Deputies. The new rules involve topics such as the inclusion of food in the national basic food basket, the rules for tax cashback, the selective tax and the committee that will manage the collection and distribution of taxes.
According to the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), the expectation is that the Ministry of Finance’s proposals will be examined and voted on by July.
