The publisher of “Die Aktuelle” pays damages to the Schumacher family
In a world that already mixes reality and fantasy, the misuse of Artificial Intelligence can have consequences that are at best bleak. In this case, the example of the “interview” with Michael does not shine Schumacher published by the German magazine Die Aktuelle on 15 April 2023, in which the newspaper boasted of a scoop which obviously was and is non-existent given the conditions in which the German driver has unfortunately found himself since the dramatic accident in Méribel over ten years ago.
The Schumacher family, outraged like everyone else by the publication of the piece, will receive 200 thousand euros in damages from the magazine’s publishing house (Funke) following the ruling of Landesarbeitsgerichtthe Labor Court of Munich.
In the two-page “interview” with the former Ferrari driver, Die Aktuelle she allowed herself to attribute to Schumacher answers such as “My life has completely changed since the accident. It was a horrible time for my wife, my children and the whole family” and others even more serious which for decency we do not raise but give an idea of the tone of the piece.
Soon after publication, Anne Hoffmann, the editor-in-chief who had created the interview (carried out via character.ai), was fired.
