'Will the Mitsubishi ASX also get this look?', we asked ourselves rhetorically after the facelift of the Renault Captur was unveiled. Less than a month later we get the answer we expected. It will therefore not surprise you that a large part of the appearance, functionalities and specifications of the ASX corresponds to the updated Captur. Fortunately, some things are different.
One of the few things that this Mitsubishi lacks compared to the Renault is the infotainment system, which runs on Android Automotive 12. Instead, the ASX uses Google built-in. This gives you direct access to apps such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and other applications from Google Play. You can also download the My Mitsubishi Motors app from the Play or Apple Store for additional information about your car.
One less powertrain than the Captur
The platform on which the ASX and Captur are based is the CMF-B platform on which the new Dacia Duster is also based. Four different powertrains are available for the Captur, but only three for the ASX. The difference is in the slip-on. The cheapest model has a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 91 hp and 160 Nm that is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox. The Captur also has this engine, but on petrol and LPG. The ASX only gets the petrol engine.
Furthermore, the engine blocks match. There is a version with a 1.3-liter turbo engine that is assisted by a mild-hybrid system for 140 hp and 260 Nm for the manual gearbox, and 158 hp and 270 Nm for the seven-speed automatic. The full hybrid has a 1.6-liter petrol engine with two electric motors that together produce 143 hp. This version is always an automatic.
The Captur's most useful feature also comes in the ASX
Also on the inside, the ASX is almost like two peas in a pod with the Renault. There is the same 10.4-inch center screen, but with a different operating system. There is also a panoramic sunroof and you can also slide the rear seat in the ASX. This either creates more luggage space (maximum 332 liters), or more legroom for the rear passengers. Nice job by Renault, er, and Mitsubishi.
Production of the facelifted Mitsubishi ASX will start next month and it should be in the showroom sometime in the second half of June. It is not yet known what you will pay for it. The price of the cheapest Captur is at least 28,690 euros. At the pre-facelift, the ASX was approximately 1,000 euros more expensive than the Captur. Can the ASX manage to stay below 30k?
