In Sweden surgeon Paolo Macchiarini has been sentenced to probation for aggravated disability in one case. He was charged with a total of three aggravated assaults.

According to the Solna District Court, in the first two cases, the poor condition of the patients defended the measure as an emergency solution. By contrast, by the third case, the negative experiences with the first two operations were such that the measure should have been abandoned.
