While some have criticized the film for choosing Pratt, but the film’s co-producer has publicly defended it, saying it won’t replicate the famous Italian accent.
In all this, an exit window of the film seems to have now appeared, at this link the article that talks about it.
After being approached by a reporter for toofab At the Los Angeles airport, Illumination co-founder and CEO Chris Meledandri was asked how Chris Pratt would get Mario’s voice out.
All I can tell you is the voice he is doing for us and Mario is phenomenal, I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
Meledandri was then asked why an Italian had not been chosen for the role (despite the fact that Mario’s usual voice actor, Charles Martinet himself, is not Italian), to which he replied:
Well, as an Italian-American I understand the comments. Charlie Day, who actually plays Luigi, comes from an Italian heritage. So this is our nod.
