The government of Rio Grande do Sul announced the suspension of classes next Monday (27) and Tuesday (28) in the cities of Porto Alegre, Pelotas and Rio Grande. The measure was adopted due to the forecast of heavy rain in the coming days.
“Due to the meteorological forecast of more rain and in line with the municipal education networks, we are suspending classes in the state network in the municipalities of Porto Alegre, Pelotas and Rio Grande on Monday and Tuesday of this week”, informed the deputy. Governor Gabriel Souza, on social media.

Weather forecast
The state had a weekend of respite from heavy rains. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the state remained in the yellow zone this Sunday, of potential risk. This Monday, however, the forecast is rain since morning. The temperature should be between 9 and 16 degrees Celsius (ºC).
The coastal region and municipalities in the south of the state are in a dangerous situation. In the southern region, the forecast is for intense rain, with the risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges. In coastal regions, the warning is of intensifying winds, which could move sand dunes over buildings on the coast. The conditions should persist until the beginning of Tuesday (28).
Affected schools and students
According to a state survey, released this Sunday (26), 246,437 students have not yet returned to classes because of the floods that devastated the state, the number corresponds to 33% of all students. In the case of 91,324, there is no expected return date.
In six cities, the return to school has been suspended since last Friday (24). They are: Porto Alegre, São Leopoldo, Estrela, Guaíba, Santana do Livramento and Gravataí.
In total, according to the data, 1,065 schools in 205 municipalities were affected in some way by the tragedy: they suffered damage, are operating as shelters or have transport and access problems. They are responsible for 381,231 students.
