With a historic performance by striker Julián Álvarezwho scored six goals, the Argentine River Plate overwhelmed the Peruvian Alianza Lima 8-1 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires in group F of the Copa Libertadores.
Álvarez, who will continue his career at English Manchester City in the second half of the year, became the first player in the history of River to score six goals in a match and equaled the scoring record for a player in a Copa Libertadores match.
The striker scored at 15, 18, 41, 54, 57 and 83 minutes, Santiago Simón at 53 and Elías Gómez at 79 for the local victory, and Pablo Lavandeira scored the discount for the Peruvian team from a penalty at 89 River qualified for the round of 16 as leader in Group F and the second in the group to advance was the Brazilian Fortaleza.
