The Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics team won the first gold of the season and another silver – the first was obtained on Saturday (11) – at the World Cup stage, in Portimão (Portugal). This Sunday (12), the national team (Deborah Medrado, Maria Eduarda Arakaki, Marianna Pinto, Nicole Pírcio, Sofia Madeira and Victória Borges) won the mixed series by scoring 32,550 points. Silver went to Mexico (30,100) and bronze to Spain (29,900).
The Lionesses (nickname of the Brazilian team), with a guaranteed place in the Paris Games, gave a breathtaking performance, to the sound of Brazilian rhythms, using ribbons and balls in the choreography.

“I’m proud to see our hard work being crowned at each competition. We are managing to evolve with each entry on the court and that is what we are looking for in this final stretch to Paris”, celebrated coach Camila Ferezin.
Also this Sunday (12), the Brazilians won silver in the singles series, with a total of 34,500, ahead of France (34,050), with intense preparation to compete in the Olympics at home. Spain (35,750) won the competition and took the gold.
“We showed our growth on the court. Consequently, the scores showed that they can count on Brazil in this fight for the Olympic podium”, projected the Lionesses’ coach.
In the individual finals, Bárbara Domingos, Babi, fought for a medal in both ball and mace, and narrowly missed out on the podium. In ball she scored 31.950, just 0.300 behind third place, which went to Slovenia’s Ekaterina Vedeneeva (32.250). Geovanna Santos from Espírito Santo also competed in the ball final, but finished in seventh place (29.100). Gold in ball went to Belarusian Alina Harnasko (33.550) and silver to Kazakh Erika Zhailauova (32.400).

In the mace final, 0.250 separates Babi, in fourth place with 32.000, from Ekaterina Vedeneeva (32.250), bronze medalist. German Darja Varfolomeev (34.100) was champion and Belarusian Harnasko (33.650) was silver.
On Saturday (11), the Lionesses had already won silver in the general test – the same one that will be played at the Paris Games.
