Second Jim Ryanthe CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainmentacquisitions will not end with Bungie and additional teams will join the PlayStation Studios. In an interview conducted by GamesIndustry.biz stated the following:
“You should definitely expect new acquisitions. We are certainly not done. We still have a long way to go with PlayStation. Personally, I spend a lot of time with Petand (Parsons, the CEO of Bungie, ed) and his team, helping them to make sure that everything works out perfectly and that autonomy means autonomy. However, in our organization we still have many moves to make. “
Ryan said the motivation behind the Bungie acquisition will help the team improve their skills in creating cross-platform live service titles.
“I’ve talked a lot about expanding the PlayStation community, something that can go beyond the heart of our historic consoles. It could take many forms. And surely one of them would be the ability to play the wonderful titles we’ve made over the last 25 years in different locations and in different modes. We are starting to go cross-platform, you have seen it. We have an aggressive roadmap with live services. And the opportunity to work together, and especially to learn, from Bungie’s brilliant and talented people will greatly accelerate the journey we’ve taken. […] Philosophically, it’s not about bringing stuff into the PlayStation world. It is about building huge and wonderful new worlds together. “
According to Ryan, the Bungie acquisition was not a response to that of Microsoft, but these are deals that took months of planning.
“These negotiations took several months of gestation and certainly predate the activities we have seen this year. From our point of view, this is really what we feel is right to do for PlayStation, the right thing to do for bringing PlayStation to places we’ve never been before. “
