For the evacuation of Ukrainian refugees to the European Union, Moldova and Romania will create a “green corridor”. This was announced on Saturday, March 5, by the Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa.
“During the conversation with the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae-Ionel Chuca, we decided to provide a “green corridor”, thanks to which the transit of Ukrainian citizens through the Republic of Moldova will be facilitated,” she wrote on Facebook.
Gavrilitsa noted that Romania has enlisted the provision of transport and, if necessary, to increase the number of personnel in order to facilitate border crossing.
According to her, many Ukrainian citizens who come to Moldova go to other states.
On March 3, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. As the head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky said, the parties discussed the military and international humanitarian issues, as well as the future of the political settlement of the situation. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, said that the Ukrainian delegation insists on three points: an immediate ceasefire, a truce, and humanitarian corridors for the removal of civilians.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. Then Peskov clarified that the special operation had two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. He pointed out that both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). Also, the President of the Russian Federation and the heads of both republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance, including military assistance.
The head of state took the relevant decisions against the backdrop of the aggravation of the situation in Donbass that began on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.
