Leclerc smiles again
If the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona had left some bitter in the mouth among the Ferrari fans in the face of Charles Leclerc’s difficulties and Carlos Sainz’s steps back from second to fifth place finish (the Spaniard defined that race as “a slow bleeding”), the weekend in Canada and the one just completed in Austria instead he certified that the developments brought to the track by Ferrari gave the SF-23 more consistency in the race, no longer indecipherable and ‘tire-eating’ as at the beginning of the season.
At the microphones in the post-race interviews Charles Leclerc spoke of “fresh air”a concept reaffirmed at the press conference: “It’s a great feeling to be back on the podium, especially after a very difficult day on Saturday. On Friday I had a very good feeling with the car. I think with the new updates my confidence with the car is increasing. And we were waiting for this race to confirm the good sensations of Friday. And it went well. In short, there are no secrets, we still have to work hard to catch up with the Red Bulls, who are still much faster especially on Sundays. But the sensations are better. AND the team is pushing like I’ve never seen before regarding the introduction of updates much sooner than expected. And that’s nice to see.”
Even if the gap from Verstappen is heavy in the standings, the goal in the races still on the calendar in 2023 is to get back on the top step of the podium: “I think I’m always motivated, especially after a weekend like this, where we finally see a little more potential to fight up front. It’s a good feeling, then obviously I think it will be difficult to go and win this championship, but on the other hand, there is still a lot to work on. I see how high the motivation is within the team and how much they are pushing at the factory to anticipate updates and that gives me the confidence and motivation to push every time I’m out on track. And I’m looking forward to Silverstone. I think we are all determined to try to win again as soon as possible, even if we are 150 points behind. a win would be a good feeling and we are all working towards this goal“.
