La Spezia – He missed Giorgio Santiago Bucchioni, 76 years old, president of the Port Authority of La Spezia from 1995 to 2005, previously already at the top of the Mechanics Company of the port from 1988 to 2004. Graduated in Law from the University of Genoa, a life spent in the sector was president of the Maritime Agents Association since 2018. In his curriculum a countless series of positions in the socio-economic world of La Spezia as well as having been president of the Industrial Union of La Spezia. Many messages of condolences arrive from all productive, trade union, political and business sectors. “A huge loss for Confindustria La Spezia as well as for the entire community”, underlines a note from the association.
The condolences of the Authority
“Giorgio Bucchioni fought heroically for a long time against the disease, demonstrating a boundless love for his family, for life and for the port – says the president of the AdSP, Mario Sommariva -. I am proud to have met him in my life. I will miss the heated discussions with him, always animated by great affection, esteem and respect even when we had different opinions, always aimed at the common good of the port, to find solutions to problems. He was ironic, cultured and witty, with a deep knowledge of shipping and the port. Given that his figure has gone far beyond the port of La Spezia, the Port Authority and the Mechanics Company that he directed in the crucial years of the reform, guiding the rebirth of the port and its international success, I would say, and I know I’m not wrong, that a great Italian has been missing. I want to express my closeness to his wife, to his son, and in particular to his daughter Giorgia who today loses a father, but will feel the affection of an entire community clinging to her and her family in an embrace that will become a living memory and indelible” concludes Sommariva.
“I am very saddened. It is a huge loss, for our city and for the entire port community that the AdSP represents – adds the Secretary General of the AdSP, Federica Montaresi: . I remember with emotion the last time we met; had wanted to participate recently, despite her health conditions, in the AdSP event on the work of women in the port, further testimony of her activism, her tenacity and her passion for the port “family”, a community that , even in the most difficult moments, has always been able to count on his lucid advice, which has sometimes contributed to avoiding useless and dangerous divisions. It is to him that many have turned over the years, given his undisputed knowledge of the port world, the La Spezia one in particular: a real “beacon” for all of us. We will miss him ”. Tuesday 28, the day of the funeral, the Authority’s headquarters in Via del Molo will be closed from 9 to 12 as a sign of mourning and to allow all AdSP employees to participate in the funeral.
Paita (Azione Iv group leader in the Senate): “He was the architect of the port miracle”
“With Giorgio Bucchioni disappears a great protagonist of the history of the city of La Spezia”. Raffalla Paita, senator of Action-Italia Viva says so. “Enlightened manager with great skills – he continues – he was one of the great architects of the port miracle in La Spezia. Also through his work, the port of La Spezia reached the top in Europe for container handling. Today is a sad day for our city. We lose a person who loved her viscerally. A love so strong that it’s impossible to remember all the battles Bucchioni fought to defend the production facilities of La Spezia and, in particular, the port. Giorgio was a sincere friend to whom I loved so much. I hoped with all my heart that this day would never come. They were tough years for him and his beloved family. Years in which we spoke constantly. We shared fundamental battles for our territory: the defense and development of the port, strategic infrastructures such as the Pontremolese, the battle for the growth of the city and regional economy. Giorgio was intelligent, courageous and determined. He was a u man with farsighted vision, a democrat and a reformist, but above all a servant of the institutions. He taught me that battles must be fought to the end without sparing one’s heart”. “Today we all have a duty to pursue with determination the objective of strengthening the presence of the port in La Spezia and the upgrading of infrastructures also to honor his example and his memory. To his adored family in Maida, Giorgia, Fabio, to his grandchildren I offer my deepest condolences “, concludes Paita.
