Who won?
There Sprint Race of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix officially ended on the track, but the name of the winner is not yet known. On paper, the Mexican from the Van Amersfoort team won the race Noel Leonauthentic dominator of the test but still under investigation for weaving at the Rivazza. In all this, Goethe and Tramnitz they concluded respectively in second and third positionbut both penalized 5 seconds on the last lap after the restart from the Virtual Safety Car, which is why Goethe’s success was annulled. A worthy ending to a race not yet decided and characterized by chaos.
Race report
Regardless of what the final decisions of the Race Direction will be, Leon was the true protagonist of the Sprint Race, doing well to immediately jump into the lead of the race, overtaking the poleman Sztuka at the start, the latter also overtaken by Tramnitz and Goethe. However, already up to the Villeneuve variantBoya went off the track after contact with Smith, which forced the entry of the first of the four Safety Cars in 18 laps in total. In all the restarts, Leon always maintained the first position ahead of the two German drivers, with attempts to break away ruined on the 5th lap (due to Voisin’s impact with the barriers after a contact with Wurz), on the 8th ( following Meguetounif’s exit from the track after hitting Beganovic) and 13th (due to Inthraphuvasak’s exit at Rivazza, despite the latter’s return to the track shortly after the official announcement of the Safety Car), moreover in a moment in which Goethe had completed the attack on Tramnitz for 2nd place. The mystery regarding the final result of the race, however, can be traced back to the episode of penultimate lap: Sztuka, after losing fourth position to Beganovic, then also attempted to defend himself from Browning’s attack on the Shear, but the Englishman hit the MP Motorsport, ending up off the track. For this reason, the Race Direction has decreed the regime of Virtual Safety Carall with Leon in the meantime under investigation for weaving alla Rivazza in previous rounds, with the incident still under investigation. At the High variant the green flag was thus displayed on the last lap, with the Mexican being beaten by Goethe, thus becoming the winner. However, on the return lap, the German and Tramnitz were penalized 5 seconds for infringements during the Virtual, with the victory thus going back to Leon, who is still not certain of success due to the possible sanction that could arrive in the next few minutes. Meanwhile, after a good fight with Van Hoepen, Minì took sixth place, while Fornaroli finished 11th next. The next Formula 3 appointment will be tomorrow morning at 08:30 with the Feature Race, live on Sky Sport F1.
