Back in front
The FP1 in Monaco saw a welcome and in some ways surprising return to the top of the time table: the best time was in fact recorded by Lewis Hamilton, which brought Mercedes back – at least for one session – to the glories of the past. His leap forward was also reported by his future Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, who recalled how on the narrow streets of the Principality even cars that struggle throughout the rest of the season can find a weekend of grace.
Tongue or podium?
Hamilton actually confirmed the good feelings who finally sent him the W15, calling Friday’s one “have a good day, probably the best we’ve had this year“. With Ferrari and McLaren competitive and Verstappen still being Verstappen, the chances of getting the first podium of the year for the #44 are not particularly high, however. The person concerned also recognized this, responding to the joke of an Italian journalist, interested in his learning the language in view of his future landing in Maranello.
“Easier to learn Italian before moving to Ferrari or getting on the podium in the remaining 17 races? I think learning Italian will be the hardest thing (at Ferrari), probably – commented Hamilton with a smile – but at the moment I would say that getting on the podium is the least likely thing“. The fans of the red hope that next year the Englishman can achieve both ‘goals’ without problems.
