In February of this year, Google announced the integration of Gemini with Messages. This would provide a way to access the chatbot from the text messaging application.
At launch, the feature was limited to the newer Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, but now Google is updating its Help page and confirm that all you need to access Gamini is an “Android device with 6 GB of RAM or higher”
Gemini now in your Android Messages chats
For now, Google Messages Gemini is only supported in English in the 164 countries where it is available. The only exception is Canada, where French is also supported.
Google is working to make Gemini available in more languages and territories in the future. But for now, your phone has to be set to English – or French, if you’re in Canada – if you want Gemini to be able to compose messages, plan events, or even just chat with you to pass the time.
An important piece of information to use the new feature is that you must be over 18 years old and use Google Messages with an account that you manage on your own. You’ll also need to make sure your RCS chats are turned on.
To access Gemini, simply open the Messages app and start a new conversation to see the option to talk to the chatbot.
