On that occasion, you will remember, Di Mare revealed to the public that he was suffering from a mesothelioma. Franco Di Mare, born in 1955, began his career in Naples before becoming a correspondent and network director at Rai. In this large company, the journalist worked his entire career.
Recently, he had spoken openly about his struggle with cancerin particular during the live television broadcast of “Che Tempo Che Fa” on Nove, where he described the difficulties linked to the disease and his precarious state of health.
“I have had a wonderful life and my memories are full of life. I’m sorry to find out only now, but it’s not too late, my referee hasn’t blown his whistle yet,” declared Franco Di Mare live, connected from home and assisted by a respirator. Visibly tired, he clearly felt from the way he spoke – obviously hindered – that the journalist was struggling with a truly insidious illness, perhaps the worst of all.
In the same interview, as we mentioned, he expressed criticisms towards his former company: “The whole of Rai, all the management groups have disappeared. I understand the union and legal reasons, I was asking for the service record, the list of places where I have been to understand what could be done. I can’t understand the absence on a human level, people with whom I had a close relationship who now deny themselves on the phone. I find only one adjective: it is repugnant.”
