A potential fire hazard is forcing BMW to recall over 1 million vehicles all over the world. This is the third reminder that the German company has to make on the issue from 2017 to today: everything revolves around the PCV, a one-way valve that recycles crankcase gases into the engine for burning, which could short out and in some rare more extreme cases could increase the risk of flames. The new recall ordered by BMW expands those already made in 2017 and 2019, which involved 740,000 and 184,000 US vehicles respectively.
The last one, however, concerns 917,106 vehicles in the United States, 98,000 in Canada and 18,000 in South Korea: according to what was stated by BMW, the models involved would be 1 Series, 3 Series, X3, 5 Series, X5 and Z4, all produced between 2006 and 2013. The new recall was ordered after BMW received a series of reports of fire in previously recalled vehicles that had been repaired: however, the German automaker has made it known that the issue is with suppliers’ production. At the moment BMW, which has told owners of affected models to continue driving pending the completion of the recall (except in the event of smoke escaping from the area near the engine compartment or smelling smoke or burning plastic), has no knowledge of accidents or injuries relating to this last recall.
