The FIA has issued a circular in which the measures taken by the extraordinary World Council held last Tuesday following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia are explained in detail.
“The FIA strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the support guaranteed by Belarus – reads the text of the International Federation – the decisions of the World Council confirm the strong commitment of the FIA to be in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian Federation and all those who suffer from the ongoing conflict ”.
As anticipated, the FIA has taken a series of decisions that will regulate the management of events on Russian soil (canceled), as well as the participation of Russian teams and drivers in sporting events under the control of the International Federation.
“Drivers of Russian / Belarusian nationality who intend to participate in an FIA race – reads the press release – will be asked to sign a declaration in which they undertake to adhere to the principles of peace and political neutrality of the Federation”.
It will be forbidden to display flags and symbols referring to Russia / Belarus, as well as playing the respective national anthems until further notice.
The provisions entered into force with immediate effect, with an invitation to the National Federations to follow the FIA line for their own internal competitions.
A refusal to adhere to the new regulations or failure to comply with the decisions of the WMSC will constitute a violation that will be judged through the use of several articles of the International Sporting code, including 1.3.2 which provides for the revocation of the license on a temporary basis or permanent.
