Pole position, victory and champion title. Arthur Leclerc has achieved all the objectives of the eve at the end of the first race held today in Yas Marina, home of the fifth and final stage of the Formula Regional Asia championship. The Ferrari Driver Academy driver laid a solid foundation on which to build his fourth success of the season by taking pole position at the end of an intense qualifying session yesterday. Leclerc made the most of the start from the first position, taking the lead of the race in front of his teammate Dino Beganovic and building a good safety margin already in the first laps.
Leclerc Jr. managed the race in the best possible way, also obtaining the fastest lap and passing as the winner under the checkered flag. A success as a leader, that obtained by the Monegasque, who reached 203 points in the general classification two races from the end, 65 more than the closest of his rivals, the Spaniard Pepe Marti. A margin that gave him the mathematical certainty of the title of champion, son of a perfect management of the championship. In addition to the four victories, Arthur in the thirteen races disputed also obtained a second and three third positions, confirming himself in the top-10 in all the other races. “I am extremely happy to have won the championship in this way – commented Leclerc – we had the opportunity to show our true potential, and today’s result is the product of all the work we have done together throughout the championship. There are still two races left, so we will continue to push again to end this experience with a flourish and be in the best shape in view of participation in the Formula 3 championship ”.
On the day of Leclerc’s triumph there was also a good confirmation from Dino Beganovic. After the third position conquered in qualifying, the eighteen-year-old Swede was the author of a good start that allowed him to immediately overtake Jak Crawford, parading behind Leclerc. Lap after lap Beganovic took a good lead on the group behind him, deservedly returning to the podium after the unlucky weekend in Dubai. He also confirmed himself in the points Oliver Bearman, which in Yas Marina is disputing its second weekend in the category. After the ninth position obtained in qualifying, the sixteen-year-old Briton moved up to seventh at the start of the race, maintaining his placement until the checkered flag.
