This weekend Nintendo has granted all owners of a Nintendo Switch traditional or OLED model to try a preview of one of the next titles coming out during the spring, announced during the Direct ten days ago. Let’s talk about Nintendo Switch Sportstrue successor of Wii Sports, a title that made history for its innovative concept, its immediacy and its simplicity, key characteristics that we will also find in this new incarnation. After all, how can you miss the opportunity to re-propose one of the titles that brought the Nintendo home console of two generations ago to success on a console as popular as Switch?
In the upcoming title the April 29 all over the world six sports will be present against the four of Original Wii Sportswith a seventh arriving during the autumn via free update (golf). If to try Football, Badminton And Volleyball we will have to wait a few more months, thanks toOnline Test Play we were able to test the first three sports included in the package with people from all over the world: Tennis, Bowling And Chanbarathe latter coming from the sequel “Wii Sports Resort” issued in conjunction with the Wii Motion Plus. The first big difference from the two original titles it is absence (at least, momentary) of Miiwhich are replaced by customizable avatars with a distinctly different appearance: more proportioned, more styled souls and by decidedly more accurate details and animations. In this first test offered by the Kyoto studios we can choose one of the preset elements that are randomly combined to create our momentary avatar. I’m pretty sure, however, that in the full game we will be able to create our alter-ego by choosing our build, hair, eyes, colors, clothes and any accessories to our liking. And judging by the first gameplay shown in Direct, it will also be possible to revive the dear old ones Miimore resembling real-world players in facial features and face shape than the new avatars.
In the’Online Play Test that, as the name itself might suggest, we are only allowed to play online, and it was not possible to choose from time to time which sport to try. Simply, by starting a quick search, the system automatically matches us to the necessary players by selecting a random sport from the three available. During the test I happened to play with only one other player a Chanbarain twos or threes a Tennisand several times in sixteen-player rooms in the Bowling to elimination, the most important new feature in this trial version.
For those unfamiliar with it, the Chanbara (or chambaraif you prefer) is none other than a kendo style sword fight which takes place on a circular platform suspended over a body of water. The object of the game is to hit the opponent as many times in a row to get him close to the edge and finally push him down. Whoever manages to score a point takes a step forward, whoever suffers retreats, and it is possible to parry the blows and break the watch creating a short period of time in which the opponent is stunned. It all lies in the position and incline the sword in the direction perpendicular to that of the blow and to do so, of course, we will have to challenge ours Joy-Con with both hands and use it as the handle of one shinai. In this variant for Nintendo Switchtwo new types of sword are introduced, in addition to the classic one: those energywhich accumulates energy with blocks and allows you to use a super shot with the press of the button Land the double swordusable with one controller in each hand.
I must say that in my games I used the first two to the best, while I had some positioning problems with the twin swords: both from my point of view and from that of the opponents it seemed to be more with light indicators on the landing strip of an airport rather than on the combat platform. While the single sword responds fairly responsively to movement, double swords often tend to cross and be inaccurate, making the duel confusing. I hope this is just a calibration problem that can be solved in the full version of the title.
The second sport that I analyze in this preview, the Tennis, is perhaps the closest to the original. As then, it is possible to play only in a double match, in two, three or four players. In the first case, our partner will not be our clone in flesh and blood as was the case above Wiibut a hologram with our likeness and I must say that the idea and result are not really bad. In the second case, however, it is possible to find oneself alone against two human opponents, or vice versa in two against a poor unfortunate who will not even have the help of the CPU. Again, our avatars on the tennis court will move on their own, and our job will only be to hit the ball trying to make a point and without throwing it out. They come back there powerful beatthe squashed and all the types of shooting that was possible in the past. Using Joy-Con is much more enjoyable than using Wiimote and sensor barthe game never loses track of our movements and the force impressed in the shots is read in a rather precise way. However, several times it happened that the racket hit the ball differently than I expected with my movement, but in any case the experience was pleasant and fun, bringing to mind many good times spent with friends and the Wii Remote. in hand.
Last but not least, the Bowling presents a great innovation thanks to the online component: to keep us company on the track will be up to fifteen human players in one elimination match consisting of several rounds: all competitors play at the same time and, between strikes, spar and single pins, the sum of their points in each session determines a ranking which, progressively, it cuts out the players in the last positions. Also in this case the way in which we will play is reminiscent in all respects of the original title, only with a much better technical performance and greater control precision. I really appreciated the fact that the matches all take place at the same time and that we won’t have to wait for each participant to finish. Even when we are cut off, we can decide to follow the progress of the tournament, or leave the room in despair and move on to the next game.
In terms of stability, theOnline Play Test so far it has shown that the Nintendo title servers hold up quite well: there were no episodes of lag, the pairing took only a handful of seconds and the uploads were fast enough. It remains to be seen, however, whether in the full version it will be just as easy to find teammates and opponents to play with, as manually choosing each sport (which may become more or less popular) could determine the speed of matchmaking itself. For the time being, the online multiplayer component of Nintendo Switch Sports satisfied me, it remains to be seen if the complete package will provide players, as well as additional competitive challenges, a single player component worthy of the name, which is not limited only to allowing a single offline player to play against the CPU. There are just under two and a half months left before we get our hands on the title anymore, and we are no longer in the skin!
6 new sports, lots of fun for everyone! Whether you are an ace in Tennis or Soccer, or you prefer to ignite the Volleyball, Chanbara or Bowling fields, Nintendo Switch Sports will test you, to prove you are the real champion! c And from next autumn, he proves he is also a Golf ace!
Really feel on the pitch! Thanks to the motion sensors, Nintendo Switch Sports catapult you into fun in a very simple way. Move the Joy-Con to throw the bowling ball, or to hit the tennis ball .. Everything as if you were on the court! And with the new addition of football, just insert the Joy-Con into the included Leg Strap and you can really kick.
