There will not be a low-cost electric Twingo, or at least the latter will not be born from the collaboration between Renault and Volkswagen. The German brand would in fact have decided to interrupt talks with Losanga, putting an end to a partnership that would have allowed it to reduce production costs and thus be able to withstand the impact of competition from China.
No collaboration between Renault and Volkswagen
As reported by Automotive News Europe, at the moment neither Volkswagen nor Renault have wanted to make any statements on the matter, with the French car manufacturer still expected to proceed with the development of a new version of the electric Twingo which should arrive in 2026, with a price that could be less than 20,000 euros. The basis for the end of the collaboration between the two brands was the impossibility of finding an agreement that satisfied both parties.
Onward to Twingo
However, the end of negotiations between Renault and Volkswagen does not put an end to potential collaborations for the development of the new Twingo EV. On the occasion of the last Geneva Motor Show, Luca de Meo himself underlined how Losanga was carrying out talks with various entities and that the project could be concluded even without any partner.
