Elden Ring has annihilated the exclusive PlayStation Horizon Forbidden Westand not only as regards the sales: the data from the United Kingdom have only confirmed a rather clear perception on social networks, on forums and on the internet in general.
Pay attention to it: nobody talks anymore of Aloy’s extraordinary adventure, the one that in the review of Horizon Forbidden West we defined exceptional from a graphic point of view, full of quality content and surprising secondary missions.
In short, Elden Ring (review) monopolized the discussion, and did so thanks to an explosive mix of marketing and substance: on the one hand, the perfect move to involve the writer in the development George RR Martinon the other hand, the opening towards a formula that is somehow more accessible even by those who do not chew bread and soulslike.
The first concrete result of this combination is the UK sales figures, which see Elden Ring beat Horizon Forbidden West by two and a half times, while rumors of over 10 million copies on Steam.
The two games are not perfectly comparable, although in reality both are action RPGs: a bit like Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Horizon 5, however, they represent the maximum expression of the skills of their development teams on similar terrain.
In this case, however, the comparison shifts to the ability of the two products to dominate the discussion space, especially on social media, and it is surprising what the FromSoftware title was able to do against Sony’s joyful war machine and its marketing. .

It is difficult to forget, in fact, how the Japanese house even managed to bring Aloy on the cover of Vanity Fair, or to portray the heroine in the form of a statue in Florence, not to mention the many events organized for the launch of the game throughout the world.
Titanic efforts that will not fail to bear fruit, we are sure, but that for the moment are crashing against the inevitable, perverse and masochistic fascination of repeated death. Let’s blaspheme.
