Although Mario has experimented multiple times with the RPG genre, his original SNES adventure is the most loved and remembered by the public, who constantly ask for a sequel. Now, to this group is added Spirited Away Fujiokadirector of super mario rpg, who wants a second part of this title to be his last job before retiring.
In a chat with MinnMax, Fujioka revealed that he would love to work on super mario rpg 2, and let this be your last letter before retirement. This was what he commented:
“In my career I have been involved in many games and I would really like my last game to be another Mario RPG, if possible. I think Mario & Luigi is great, but I’d like to go back and make a Mario RPG where you’re just controlling Mario.”
After working on super mario rpg from the SNES, Fujioka eventually joined to AlphaDream, those responsible for the Mario & Luigi RPGs. Thus, the director knows exactly how the beloved plumber should function in this genre. However, the chances of this happening are less and less.
The last Mario RPG we saw was Paper Mario: The Origami King, which leaves aside many characteristic elements of this genre. On related topics, Nintendo isn’t quite ready to step into the metaverse just yet. Similarly, these are the protagonists of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Editor’s Note:
though see Super Mario RPG 2 It would be great, a new RPG with Mario is no longer the very interesting idea that we saw in the 90s. However, this idea is not completely ruled out. AlphaDream is no more, and we don’t know anything about the Mario & Luigi series. On the other hand, Paper Mario is moving further and further away from this genre, so something more traditional would be a fresh air.
