Program is aimed at dependents of security or socio-educational agents killed in the exercise of their profession
The Public Safety Commission of Chamber approved the PL 1,110 of 2023, which creates a scholarship program for dependents of security or socio-educational agents who died while exercising their profession or as a result of it. The project is underway in conclusive character and will also be analyzed by the Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship committees.
The rapporteur, deputy Sergeant Portugal (Podemos-RJ), recommended the approval of the PL with two amendments to expand the list of security agents favored by the rule.
“The pensions granted in these cases, especially for initial career positions and grades, often prove to be insufficient to meet the basic needs of family members left behind”said Sergeant Portugal when defending the project.
The author of the proposal, the deputy Sergeant Gonçalves (PL-RN), declared that “these employees carry out activities that justify different treatment as a result of the constant risk that exercising their profession imposes on them”.
Expanded list
The text changes the law 13,756 from 2018which deals with the FNSP (National Public Security Fund). The original version only favored dependents of military police officers and military firefighters. With the approved amendments, dependents will benefit from:
- federal police officers;
- federal highway police officers;
- federal railway police officers;
- civil police officers;
- military police and military firefighters;
- federal, state and district criminal police officers;
- municipal guards;
- socio-educational agents.
According to the approved text, a rate of 1% of the resources committed by the FNSP will be allocated to scholarships. According to the Transparency Portal, in 2023 R$2.3 billion were committed – practically the entire amount of allocations.
