The union asks for the review of the cessation of the Covid reinforcements to “not return to January 2020” and maintain the quality of the service
The Workers’ Commissions union (CC OO) denounces “the irresponsibility of the Murcian Institute of Social Action (IMAS) and the Ministry of Women, Equality, LGTBI, Families, Social Policy and Transparency, which have abandoned their public centers for the disabled and the elderly , which get ahead thanks to the good will and effort of their professionals». A group of workers from the Murcian Institute of Social Action, summoned by CC OO, gathered yesterday for the third time to demand more personnel to maintain a quality service for users. In this case, the concentration took place in front of the door of the San Esteban Palace, seat of the regional government.
The CC OO staff delegate at the IMAS, María Dolores García Navarro, called for “the urgent hiring of staff because the needs of users have changed during the pandemic.” To deal with the Covid outbreaks in these social and health centers, the workforce was reinforced with 180 professionals, of which only 95 direct care employees remain, who will see their contract terminated next Thursday. In the event of outbreaks, those reinforcements would be maintained. An “insufficient” measure for CC OO, because possible staff losses are not considered. «We demand the review of dismissals and the incorporation of these places in the structure. These are vacancies that we already needed to cover before the pandemic to allow the reconciliation of work and professional life. Permanent and discontinuous workers are being overloaded to cover casualties with overtime, whose compensation on days off they cannot enjoy. We are entering an endless loop,” Garcia Navarro lamented.
Franco: «Perfect ratio»
Regarding the response obtained to these demands by the Minister of Social Policy, Isabel Franco, they maintain that “she qualifies the ratios as perfect”. According to CC OO, because it does not take into account “low and licenses”. The union places the start of the cuts as of 2010. «The decentralization agreements between the State and the autonomous communities require a minimum maintenance of quality of the transferred service, this has not happened in the Region, since the IMAS policy has been deteriorating as an argument for privatization.
From the union they remember that the virus has not gone away and that the security protocols to serve users are still in force. «We do not want to live another January 2020, with some staff in permanent minimum services. Let us not forget that this has an impact on the quality of the healthcare service”, they conclude.
