The Porsche Carrera Cup Italia 2022 is ready for a red-hot turning point, taking place on the weekend of 17 July at the Mugello Circuit with forecasts of 33-34 degrees in the atmosphere (in the shade) and probable peaks of 60 on the asphalt ( on a track that is already demanding with tires), without considering what values the perceived temperature inside the cockpits will reach.
In short, a hot weekend on and off the track just as it will be a weekend from “inside or outside”: the Porsche Italia single-brand store will arrive at the summer break through a fundamental third round, which awaits the start on the ups and downs of the Tuscan track. 36 pilots and promises adrenaline in all the challenges for the titles up for grabs, starting with the absolute one, for which the first accounts will begin after Mugello …
In the light of Imola and Misano, balance dominates in the overall standings: current leader and reigning champion Alberto Cerquithe 23-year-old Giorgio from Rimini Belovedboth standard bearers of Ghinzani Arco Motorsport – Porsche Centers Milan (which not surprisingly is also dominating in the Team classification), and the 2018 champion Gianmarco Quaresmini (Shadow Racing – Porsche Center Brescia) are enclosed in just six points. Not that the others are very distant.
Mugello will also welcome the return of the multiple MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzohosted many times as the protagonist of the World Championship and this time at the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup of the Q8 HI Perform Team, on which the Majorcan is growing in performance and a month ago he obtained the first points in the championship.
The two races 28 minutes + 1 lap will be played on Saturday at 16.10 with live TV on Sky Sport Arena and on Sunday at 12.30 on Sky Sport Arena and in clear text on Cielo. Both are also available in live streaming in HD on the official website www.carreracupitalia.it.
In pursuit
After winning the first race of the season in Imola, the first antagonist of the leading trio will be Diego Bertonelli (BeDriver – Porsche Center Piacenza), who is chasing 17 points behind Cerqui and right on the home circuit aims to revive his ambitions after the penalty that in race 1 complicated his path at Misano last month.
Slightly more detached, Giammarco occupies the fifth position Levorato. The 18-year-old from Padua from Tsunami RT – Centro Porsche Parma with Amati is currently among the most concrete young people of the Porsche Italia Scholarship Program, which Leonardo also aspires to Caglionithe born in 2003 from Bergamo, now called to comeback after the inaugural podium in Imola with the 911 GT3 Cup of Ombra Racing – Centro Porsche Padova and the less fortunate following round.
On the youth front in search of redemption, the 2021 vice-champion Alessandro will also go Giardelliin his first season with Ebimotors – Centro Porsche Varese, while again ready to attack are the 2013 champion Enrico Fulgenzi (EF Racing), winner of race 2 in Imola, and the expert Matteo Malucelli (Team Malucelli – Porsche Center Modena), winner of race 1 in Misano.
Constancy has so far rewarded Aldo Festant (Raptor Engineering – Porsche Center Catania), returned to the top-5 at Misano, e Lodovico Laurini (Dinamic Motorsport – Centro Porsche Latina), but in the crucial moment of the season the two go in search of a turning point or an acute, just like Stefano Monk (Dinamic Motorsport – Porsche Center Verona), Benedetto Strignano (Villobra Corse – Porsche Center Treviso), the Macedonian Risto Vukov (GDL Racing – Porsche Center Bari) and also the 17 year old Lithuanian rookie Kajus Siksnelis (Dinamic Motorsport – Porsche Center Bologna) after showing a good pace at Misano.
Often in the top positions, but still unable to grab the podium, the 22-year-old South African rookie Keagan is expected to give concrete evidence Mastersrevelation driver with AB Racing – Porsche Centers Rome, and Andrea Fountainstandard bearer of Bonaldi Motorsport – Porsche Center Bergamo, who really could represent the most dangerous outsiders for the drivers currently at the top.
Michelin Cup
Twice winner in Imola and the only one to always get on the category podium, Alex De Giacomi the march that sees him in contention for the title of the Michelin Cup resumes at Mugello. The driver from Brescia of the Tsunami team leads the standings, but will have to guard against sure attacks by Alberto De Amicis, the driver from Guidonia capable in turn of making a double at Misano and playing the role of first pursuer. The Ebimotors standard bearer will be joined in the team by Paolo Gnemsever closer to the podium positions, and the returning Gianluca Giorgion his return and his seasonal debut in Carrera Cup Italia.
With high ambitions the reigning champion Marco also starts again Cassaràwho after three podiums will try to get closer to the top and regain success at the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup of Raptor Engineering – Porsche Center Catania and then come back with more chances when the championship resumes in September in “his” Vallelunga.
So pay attention to the 2020 vice-champion Luca Little Shepherds (Krypton Motorsport), in Piergiacomo Randazzo (Ombra Racing – Porsche Center Turin) and a newfound Francesco Maria Phoenicians (AB Racing – Porsche Centers Rome), all looking for precious points.
Among the outsiders Pablo Biolghini (who returns with the Racevent team, where he alternates with Carlo Scarpellini), the Swedish Mike Knutzov (EF Racing) and the Veronese driver Johannes Zelger (Tsunami RT), the latter in crescendo of results, while another seasonal debut and welcome return marks Max Montagnese.
The Calabrian driver sides with Team Malucelli – Centro Porsche Mantova and returns to the Porsche Italia mono-brand for the first time at the wheel of the new 911 GT3 Cup and for the first time in the Michelin Cup after winning the 2021 title of the Silver Cup.
Silver Cup
Precisely among the slightly older 911 GT3 Cups (model 991.II) of the Silver Cup, crucial duels are expected at Mugello given the balance that characterizes the ranking. In the lead are equal to Paolo Venerosi Little fish (Ebimotors – Porsche Center Florence), engaged on the home circuit, and Matteo Rovida (BeDriver – Porsche Center Piacenza), but chasing the vice-champion Davide at just two lengths Scannicchio (ZRS Motorsport) and a little further back is Max Donzelli, fresh from his first seasonal success with the Raptor Engineering team – Centro Porsche Catania. Two assiduous and passionate patrons of the tricolor series such as Luigi then complete the starting grid Peroni (Ebimotors) and Marco Parisini (Team Malucelli).
