Abu Dhabi residents can move around by using a self-driving taxi around the clock and ordering it through the TXAI application available on the “Google Play” and “iOS App Store”, which constitutes a new and important step in the future of smart transportation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Hassan Al Hosani, CEO of Bayanat, said that the first pilot phase of the self-driving taxi initiative was launched on Yas Island and ends on December 23, and the public can use the service for free during this period.
Al Hosani added that there is no tariff for the use of TXAIs on Yas Island at the present time, as we are still in the stage of testing the technology and vehicles on the ground, noting that when commercial operations are launched, the transportation tariff will be competitive and in line with the reality of the market.
The CEO of Bayanat explained that the main elements of the initiative consist of the car itself supported by the array of sensors mounted on top of the car, which enables the ability of geospatial intelligence, artificial intelligence and cloud computing in the backend where all the elements work to enable the TXAI service as a self-driving taxi.
Al Hosani indicated that Abu Dhabi residents can currently benefit from the free service during the ongoing trial phase and request a flight reservation through the TXAI application. Once the application is downloaded, you can follow the on-screen instructions and visit one of the nine specified locations on Yas Island to request a trip.
Bayanat CEO stated that the second phase of the initiative includes increasing passenger transport operations by operating more than 10 vehicles in separate locations across Abu Dhabi. He indicated that since the launch of the pilot phase, no traffic accidents or complaints from passengers about Safety issue.
Al Hosani said that the current fleet of TXAIs consists entirely of electric and hybrid cars, which would contribute to reducing carbon emissions, adding that during the first trial phase, which is scheduled to end on December 23, the public can reserve TXAI cars to move between nine pre-defined locations to download and unload. Passengers on Yas Island during the trial phase: Etihad Arena, Yas Marina Marina, W Abu Dhabi Hotel, Ferrari World, Yas Mall, IKEA, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld and Yas Beach.
It is worth noting that “Bayanat Surveying Services”, the company specializing in geospatial systems, data analysis and artificial intelligence, recently announced its new fleet of self-driving vehicles under the “TXAI” brand, which represents the first fully automated taxis in the UAE.
Last March, the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport signed a partnership agreement with Bayanat, a subsidiary of the G42 group, under which the project of self-driving vehicles was developed and implemented. This partnership supports smart transportation innovations and constitutes a strong impetus for efforts to develop innovative transportation solutions. Autonomous vehicles are able to sense their surroundings and navigate without human intervention and rely on mapping algorithms and data obtained from multiple built-in sensors to determine the route of the road. Optical object recognition and real-time positioning system.
