A commercial ship was hit and made a distress call yesterday, after being attacked in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen, according to what two British maritime security agencies reported, in what appears to be the latest attack by the Houthi group.
Embrey said the ship was hit about 68 nautical miles (about 126 kilometers) southwest of the port of Hodeidah, which is controlled by the Houthis.
The company said in a statement that “the ship conforms to the specifications of the targets announced by the Houthis,” without providing further details.
Later, the British UK MTO agency reported that “a small boat collided with the stern of the ship,” noting that it was “white in color and between 5 and 7 meters long.”
She indicated that the captain of the ship “reported that water had leaked into it, and that it was not under the command of the crew,” and that he reported that “she was hit for the second time by an unknown airborne missile,” noting that the military authorities were providing her with assistance.
No party immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but it comes in the context of repeated attacks carried out by the Houthis since November on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
