Officials in Norway said Thursday that at least 50 people in Oslo have been infected with the “Omicron” mutant, according to the Associated Press.
Officials said the 50 Omicron infections were linked to a recent Christmas party hosted by a company in a restaurant in the Norwegian capital, Oslo.
As officials try to trace the transmission routes of the virus from the party, the Oslo municipality said in a statement that it expects more cases.
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health said the infected live in Oslo and surrounding municipalities.
Much remains unknown about the new variant of the Corona virus, whether it is more contagious, as some health authorities suspect, whether it makes people more seriously ill, and whether it is able to thwart the effectiveness of current vaccines.
