Samsung presented its latest technological jewel at InfoComm 2024: the Color E-Paper. This is one electronic ink screen capable of displaying colors. A prototype characterized by very low energy consumption, but which once on the market will be intended for companies, as a sustainable and innovative alternative to traditional digital displays and printed materials. But what makes this new display so special?
The Color E-Paper is based on e-paper technology, known for its extremely low energy consumption. Unlike LCD or OLED displays, which require constant backlighting, e-paper only consumes energy when the displayed image changes. This feature makes Color E-Paper incredibly energy efficient, consuming zero power when displaying a static image.
But it’s not just energy efficiency that makes the Color E-Paper interesting. The display also offers stunning image quality, with a QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and a 60,000 color gamut. Thanks to technology E Ink Spectra 6the colors promise to be vivid and realistic, perfect for capturing the attention of passers-by and communicating messages effectively.
The design of the Color E-Paper is equally interesting. At just 17.9mm thick and weighing 2.9kg, the display is incredibly thin and light, easy to install in any environment. The interchangeable frame allows you to customize the look of the display to adapt it to any context, while Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity simplify content management.
The applications of the Color E-Paper are many. Thanks to its low power consumption, it is ideal for digital signage in indoor environments, such as shops, offices, schools and hospitals. It can be used to display menus, product information, hours, maps and much more. Furthermore, thanks to its ability to display high-quality color images, the Color E-Paper is also perfect for advertising and visual communication in general. However, it is not a TV: the image change in fact creates a partial flashing of the screen, clearly not suitable for viewing content characterized by multiple frames per second.
