Controversy
“They are the teams that I like the worst,” the president of the FEF wrote during a private conversation with his father, from whom the three clubs demand a rectification “and apologize publicly”
Valencia, Sevilla and Villarreal condemned this Tuesday “the serious contempt” towards the three clubs by Luis Rubiales, who, according to a private conversation on WhatsApp with his father and more relatives published by ‘El Confidencial’, talks about his football preferences and lack of respect for said entities. Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla demand a rectification from the president of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) and “publicly apologize to the three institutions and their fans.”
“Let’s see if we brush off these basins (derogatory nickname with which the Seville team is known),” Rubiales wrote during the Real Madrid-Sevilla League match (2-1) played in January 2020 at the Santiago Bernabéu, where the referee Martínez Munuera annulled a goal against Luuk de Jong that caused the outrage of the Andalusian club, through its sports director, Monchi, very critical of the match official. According to the messages revealed this Tuesday by ‘El Confidencial’, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal are the teams “that worst” fall to the top leader of the FEF, the body in charge of appointing the referees of the League.
“They are the second team that I like the worst of all,” writes Rubiales. His father adds along with some laughing emoticons: «Yes. And me. Valencia and Seville». So, Rubiales affirms. «To me in this order Villarreal, Seville and Valencia». A few hours later, the three clubs jointly issued a statement denouncing that “the conversations in which they speak with such insult, animosity and arrogance towards the three institutions are unacceptable coming from a person who holds a position of such responsibility and who must look after the interests of all Spanish football clubs alike”.
After the new controversy starring Rubiales when the president of the FEF faces a complaint in court after his agreement with Gerard Piqué for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, the three clubs show their “enormous concern about the possible consequences that can assume their attitude” towards these entities. Valencia, Seville and Villarreal consider that “Rubiales’ behavior does not contribute to the transparency of the competition.”
Pepe Castro, “another integral cocoon”
During the compromising conversation revealed by the media that uncovered the Super Cup scandal, Luis Rubiales’ father also launches a harsh criticism of Sevilla’s president, Pepe Castro. “Another integral asshole. With the arrogance of Seville, they think they are the best in the world. Clown. Let them give them. Let them go! », He allegedly wrote to the president of the FEF. Rubiales then responded by laughing and referring to an action by Real Madrid-Sevilla: “They will be fining me for the VAR.”
The new messages disseminated -in this case in the private sphere- that further damage the public image of Rubiales, marked this Tuesday the LaLiga assembly, during which Valencia, Sevilla and Villarreal did not hide their discomfort with the president of the FEF, to publicly demonstrate with a statement regarding the “snub” and “lack of respect” of the Canarian leader towards said entities “and, most importantly, towards the feelings of their fans.”
Rubiales, born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria but raised in Granada, was a footballer for Guadix, Mallorca B, Lleida, Xerez, Levante and Alicante, before becoming president of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), from where, by winning the elections on May 17, 2018, he made the leap to the presidency of the FEF to end the 28-year term of Ángel Villar. When ‘El Confidencial’ revealed the controversial audios of the Arabian Super Cup, Rubiales denounced that his cell phone had been hacked.
As a result of the new whatsapp published, Rubiales is again immersed in a new controversy with Valencia, who decided to denounce the FEF for the economic distribution after the transfer of the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, considering it unfair. Valencia still has a dispute with the FEF due to payments for the 2020 Super Cup, when the club from the Turia capital played in the competition after winning the Cup a year earlier. The federative body agreed to pay Valencia 2.5 million euros, compared to 4.5 for Atlético and six for Real Madrid and Barcelona. The white club in the end received ten million as the winner of the edition played in Jeddah.
