Dancing cars, annoyed radio teams and a good but not sparkling timesheet. This is how Friday in Monaco ended for Max Verstappen – exactly as it had been in Imola with more worries than smiles. The reigning world champion in Italy had managed to straighten out the situation, grabbing pole and victory. This time, however, he himself is more pessimistic, confirming the concerns for the Principality’s weekend already expressed yesterday at the press conference.
“Today was quite difficult, but we knew that in view of this weekend’s race it would be like this – explained Verstappen at the end of the day – there were a lot of jumps and temperature variations on the track, which made things difficult for us. Every time we went over a bump the car lost a lot of lap time and on this track a small bump can always send you into the wall. We are studying a solution for the weekend to resolve the problem.”
“In general – continued the world champion – the problem is a little more difficult to solve in terms of set-up and it won’t be a quick solution, but we will work on it during the night. We don’t expect miracles – concluded Verstappen – but we still look to tomorrow. Ferrari is also fast, but I won’t think about it until tomorrow. Overnight we will look at the problems we have and hope to improve the car’s handling ahead of qualifying.”
