UK ‘to hold general election on 4th July’, a Thursday. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed this, speaking outside Downing Street in London. “On July 5th either I will be prime minister or Keir Starmer will be”, the leader of the Labor Party, he adds.
Rumors about a possible early vote had intensified in the last few hours and the prime minister, in response to a direct question from the leader of the SNP (Scottish National Party), Stephen Flynn, in the House of Commons had not ruled out the possibility of an electoral competition ” in the second half of the year”.
“Speculation is rife, so I think the public deserves a clear answer to one simple question. Does the Prime Minister intend to call a general election in the summer? Or is he afraid?”, Flynn urged. “As I have told him repeatedly, there will be, spoiler alert, a general election in the second half of the year,” Sunak had anticipated, laughing. The official announcement arrived in the afternoon.
Starmer’s move
A few minutes after the announcement by the Conservative Prime Minister, the leader of the Labor Party Starmer, with a clear lead in the polls, has launched his election campaign video with a soundtrack of techno music, to leave no doubt about the main recipients of his message. The key word is “change” and the slogan “stop political chaos and decline”. Among the priorities are that of a national renewal, restoring the national health service, breaking barriers of opportunity and bringing safety back to the streets. “It’s time for a change. After 14 years of Tory government, nothing seems to be working anymore. The answer, it’s not another five years of Tories. They’ve failed. The Labor party has changed,” announces Starmer.
