TikTok’s insane blackout challenge allegedly killed seven children worldwide, according to a report published by
The Verge
. The “challenge” that has spread on the social network does not include the typical ballets of the medium, but invited one to strangle oneself until fainting. TikTok is facing several lawsuits from parents whose children died of asphyxiation by shooting a video, and in one particular lawsuit it is reported that the victims are a total of seven, all under 15 years. There is also an Italian victim, ten-year-old Antonella Sicomero, who died in January 2021 in Palermo. The latest complaint is about little Lalani Walton, eight, and Arriani Arroyo, nine. TikTok posted a statement in which it claimed it blocked any search for the term “Blackout Challenge”, redirecting to a page that invites you to avoid dangerous situations online and provides support links. However, some video of the challenge attempts are still present on the app, and have not yet been removed, thus appearing in the “For you” selection of some users.
