American actor Lance Reddick, who played Lieutenant Cedric Daniels in the TV series “The Wire” (2002-2008), has died at the age of 60. The actor’s lifeless body was found at his home in Studio City, Calif., today, according to gossip site ‘TMZ’. According to “The Hollywood Reporter” the death occurred from natural causes.
Reddick had recently promoted “John Wick 4”, the latest installment of the Keanu Reeves franchise in which he played Charon, the hotel concierge of New York’s underground crime center, the Continental Hotel. Gifted with a sonorous and memorable voice, Reddick has often worked as a voice actor in projects such as The Vindicators, DuckTales, Rick and Morty and Castlevania and has also lent his voice to video games.
On TV he also starred in the series “Lost” (2008-200), in the role of Matthew Abaddon, “Fringe” (2008-2013), “Bosch” (2014-2021), in the role of Irvin Irving. He played the role of Papa Legba in the third season of “American Horror Story” (2014), a role he also reprized in the eighth season.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 31, 1962, Reddick studied at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in New York, where he received his bachelor’s degree, and then went on to the Yale School of Drama.
Reddick already had a dozen roles under his belt, most notably the series “Oz,” but it was “The Wire,” which premiered in June 2002, that changed the trajectory of his career. David Simon’s drama explored crime and corruption in Baltimore and is considered one of the greatest series of all time.
The actor’s death precedes the release of the fourth ‘John Wick’ film, which will hit US theaters on March 24. He’s already done a number of other projects, including the “John Wick The Ballerina” spinoff and 20th Century’s “White Men Can’t Jump” remake, which arrives May 19.
