The US could begin transferring weapons to Ukraine, including ATACMS tactical missiles, next week. This was announced on April 21 by the head of the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Mark Warner.
“We were informed: as soon as the President [США Джо Байден] will sign [законопроект]making sure that Congress does its job, these weapons will be sent by the end of the week,” he said on the TV channel CBS.
Warner clarified that the assistance package will also include long-range weapons, including ATACMS. He also added that the United States is fighting Russia, spending only 3% of its defense budget on this and not using its own army.
Earlier that day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned that further US immersion in a hybrid war against Russia would result in a loud and humiliating fiasco for the American leadership, as was the case in Afghanistan and Vietnam. According to her, the actions of the White House contribute to Kyiv fighting to the last Ukrainian and continuing terrorist attacks on Russian civilian targets, sabotage and murder of journalists.
The day before, the US House of Representatives passed a bill on additional assistance to Ukraine for almost $61 billion, the vote passed with 311 votes for and 112 against. After this, the US President called on senators to approve the draft law as soon as possible for the speedy signing of documents and sending weapons to Kyiv.
The Senate is expected to begin voting on the Allied Aid bills on Tuesday, April 23. The vote will include questions about the allocation of funds to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
On that day, The New York Times newspaper, citing a representative of the US Department of Defense, General Patrick Ryder, reported that Washington, after American leader Joe Biden signed the military aid bill, would be able to transfer ammunition to Kyiv in a couple of days. According to him, military aid to Ukraine is located in Pentagon warehouses in Germany.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Kyiv against the backdrop of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, recently in the West there have been increasingly frequent statements about the need to reduce support for Ukraine.
