2021 was certainly a very complicated year for the automotive sector, not only in terms of sales but also in terms of production. The shortage of components, semiconductors and microchips above all, literally caused both the component and vehicle segments to collapse last year. However, 2022 seems to have started on the right foot: in the month of January, a production increase of + 1.3% compared to the same month last year, an increase of 5.2% compared to December 2021.
Driving this recovery in the production sector was the segment of components, which registered a + 4.5% against a decrease in the production of motor vehicles in general equal to -4.4%. In reality, the decline in the construction of motor vehicles in general does not concern all segments: if we analyze only that of passenger cars, in fact, we notice a growth, albeit slight, in comparison with last year. However, Italy remains one of the few European countries that in January came to terms with the plus sign: almost all the other large markets, although on more consistent volumes, recorded a decrease from the point of view of production, from -20% in Great Britain to -1% in Germany. This data was revealed in today’s edition of Il Sole 24 Ore, which mentions the processing carried out by the Anfia Research Office, the Association of companies in the automotive sector.
“On the export front components recovered with sales that rose from January to November 2021 to over 20 billion compared to 17 billion in 2020, with Germany representing the first market, the most exposed to the interruption of the supply of wiring from Ukraine – reads the newspaper – The market context remains difficult, pending the new inventive plan being examined by the Government “. The situation is far from stable therefore, what is certain is that compared to a disastrous 2021 the first signs from January are encouraging.
