In the enormous and very important history that Independiente has, there are many footballers who became idols of the “Red”. However, as in all clubs, there have also been other signings who arrived with great fanfare but left through the back door, or who arrived as unknowns and were not up to the club’s standards. Let’s review the five most significant.
They called him “Pomelo” and he had played in Rosario Central from 2003 to 2007, with good performances, which motivated the “Rojos” leaders to bring him, but in Independiente he was one of the most inconsequential full-backs in the history of the club.
“When I left Independiente I had a bitter taste,” said “Totono”, who had stood out in Colón, when he left Rojo in 2008, after appearing in 13 games and failing to score even one goal.
For the 2013 Final Tournament, Independiente presented the forward as the top international figure. They called him “Sorongo.” It was a huge disappointment, since it was far from the expectations generated. He descended.
The forward had just broken it at Arsenal de Sarandí, but his deplorable physical condition led him to score just 1 goal in his 19 games. Insulted by the fans, he left through the back door of the Libertadores de América. As the club had a debt with him, it fulfilled his objective and kept the cups, through an embargo on the institution.
A central defender, he had just had a good Huracán performance and that was why he came to Rojo in 2008. The fans only remember how bad he was physically.
