Taxation|The most common information to be reported are commuting expenses, household deductions and income-generating expenses.
Tax reporting the deadline is today, reminds the Tax Administration. The deadline applies to approximately 1.6 million salary and pension recipients. This year, more than a million Finns have already made changes before the deadline.
According to the Tax Administration, just over 1.4 million people made changes to their pre-filled tax return last year, and just over 1.2 million people in 2022. The Tax Administration sends approximately 5.6 million pre-filled tax returns every year.
Tax Administration reminds that the pre-filled tax return must always be checked, and if there are errors or omissions in the information, they must be corrected. The tax administration receives a lot of information automatically, but for example, you often have to report various deductions yourself. The most common deductions are travel expenses between home and work, household deduction and income-generating expenses.
The tax administration automatically makes an income acquisition deduction of 750 euros for all wage earners, so you should only report income acquisition expenses if they exceed the 750 euro limit. This happens, for example, when you work remotely at home for more than half of your working days. In this case, you can make a workroom deduction.
In addition to deductions, income from the previous year that is missing from the pre-filled tax return must be reported no later than the due date for checking the tax return itself. Examples of self-declared income are rental income, virtual currency income and income from content production and sales on platforms.
For some wage earners and pensioners, the tax declaration deadline was May 7 or 14. For a small number of wage earners, i.e. the spouses of business owners and farmers, the tax declaration deadline was already April 2.
