- Reading of the holy gospel according to Saint Luke (20,27-38):
At that time, some Sadducees approached, those who say that there is no resurrection, and asked Jesus: «Teacher, Moses left us written: “If a man dies his brother, leaving a wife but without children, let him take his wife. as wife and offspring to his brother. Well, there were seven brothers; the first married and died childless. Her second and third married her, and so did the seven, and they all died without leaving children. Finally, the woman also died. When the resurrection comes, whose wife will she be? Because the seven had her as a wife.
Jesus told them: “In this world men marry and women take husbands, but those who are judged worthy to take part in the world to come and in the resurrection from the dead will not marry nor will they be given in marriage. For they can no longer die, since they are like angels; and they are children of God, because they are children of the resurrection. And that the dead rise, Moses himself indicated in the episode of the bush, when he calls the Lord: “God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob”. He is not God of the dead, but of the living: because for him all are alive ». Lord’s word.
Not to wait for another life is to despair of God. Today’s readings present us with two similar but very different realities. In the first, we find a family of seven children from a huge faith, which, neither the threats of her executioners, nor the physical and mortal torments intimidate her to remain firm in his purpose of giving his life for his faith and his convictions… And so, even the smallest challenges authority by putting their values before the promises of their victimizers. The second, on the contrary, in the gospel Of Luke, seeks to ridicule hope in the Resurrection of some and for this reason, they propose to Jesus a rare case, but possible. The law required the unmarried brother to take her sister-in-law as his wife, if she was left a widow and childless, and to give offspring to the deceased brother. When she did not even have the possibility of another life after her death, her children ensured the only possible way of survival. His life and the memory of it prolonged the name and life of the father.
This makes us see that the laws that govern life that has an end (as is the case with an idiology) are not valid in a life without end. Those who are worthy of the future life will have only God as future (as is the case with a doctrine). They will not bind themselves to anyone else nor will they think of anyone other than God: they will occupy themselves with loving only Him (as is the case with Christian doctrine).
In that sense, there is nothing strange in that, if we have not been able to feel Children of God in this life, we refuse to accept him as Dad in the other. Therein lies the reason for our unbelief. Hence the doubts and questions put to Jesus by the Sadducees about that woman who is seeing the death of “each one of her husbands and, not accepting the resurrection, it seems to them that the fatherhood of God cannot reach beyond the here and now that we live. Therefore, it is logical that in order to postulate a new life, as children of God that we will be, we will have to dare to have God as Father in the life we lead.

Those of us who believe, like Jesus, that God is a God who lives to give life, we know that, in this life and after death, there is our God. If it is true that in life we walk towards our death, it is no less certain that, living and dying one day, we walk towards the God of the living. To those of us who believe in the resurrection of the dead, no one and nothing takes our lives, we will deliver it one day because God thinks of giving it back to us new, without limits or deaths. If such is our faith, why is not so our practice?
Enjoy the presence of God in the Mass and in the family!
