One person died this afternoon, May 29, after being sucked into the engine of a KLM plane at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport. The accident occurred as flight KL1341 was preparing to take off for Billund, Denmark. The victim has not yet been identified.
An investigation has been opened into the incident and the airline – reports the BBC – has also made it known that it is investigating the tragic episode.
According to several Dutch media, the victim could be an employee involved in the rejection of a plane before take-off. Images obtained by Dutch national broadcaster NOS show emergency services surrounding the passenger plane on the airport apron, where the planes are parked.
According to reports, the aircraft involved was a short-haul Embraer jet used by KLM’s Cityhopper service flights between nearby destinations in Europe.
Schiphol Airport said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s relatives, we are taking care of the passengers and colleagues who witnessed the incident.”
