Ukraine will lose the war with dire consequences if the United States does not provide a new package of financial assistance to the Kyiv regime. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer announced this on February 23, citing Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s admission of this.
“President Zelensky told me and our delegation that Ukraine will lose the war with dire consequences for the Ukrainian people, the United States, democracy and freedom without this vital assistance. Speaker [палаты представителей Майк Джонсон] and the House of Representatives must stand up now and pass the Senate National Security Bill as soon as possible,” he wrote on social media.
On February 11, Schumer had already hurried his colleagues, threatening the success of the Russian Federation in Ukraine if Washington did not resume assistance to Kyiv.
On February 22, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko (included in the Rosfinmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists) also spoke about the importance of financial assistance to Ukraine from the United States. He called Ukraine a valuable ally of the United States and lamented that American politicians are too focused on elections, which is why assistance to Kyiv is relegated to the background.
On February 13, the US Senate approved a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine. During the voting, legislators crossed the 60-vote threshold to send the bill to the House of Representatives. At the same time, The Guardian noted that the bill has little chance of passing the House of Representatives, where Speaker Mike Johnson criticized it for its lack of provisions on the flow of migrants on the border with Mexico.
On February 7, the US Senate blocked a bill with provisions for protecting US borders.
The bill was blocked three days after its introduction. It assumed the allocation of about $60 billion to Ukraine, $14.1 billion to Israel, and another $20.2 billion to strengthen the border with Mexico due to the serious problem with the high number of illegal migrants.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, recently in the West there have been increasingly frequent statements about the need to reduce support for Kyiv.
