With the end of the 2021 season, the extraordinary career of Chaz Davies ended, who hung up his helmet but does not leave the paddock. Yes, because the Welshman will be on track for the 2022 season, but in another guise. The Aruba.it Racing Ducati Team has in fact announced that Davies returns to the factory team and will cover the role of coach of the two starting riders, Alvaro Bautista and Michael Ruben Rinaldi.
As we had already anticipated several weeks ago, the Welshman was ready to return to the Superbike paddock as a coach and seemed to have taken the path of BMW. In fact, the German manufacturer had had contacts with Davies, who would have joined Scott Redding, historically a friend of Chaz and passed to the builder from Munich. But the love story between Davies and Ducati was one of the most beautiful in recent years in Superbike, so the Welshman remains in Borgo Panigale.
Not just Superbike: Aruba Ducati will be on the Supersport starting grid in 2022 with Nicolò Bulega, who will make his debut in the intermediate class. Davies will also have the opportunity to help the rookie in the 600 class and will be able to share the great experience with the Panigale V2 and V4, after eight seasons, of which seven in the official team, 266 races, 28 wins and 89 podiums.
“I am absolutely thrilled to remain part of the racing world and above all of the Aruba.it – Ducati family, with whom I lived the best years of my racing career – says Chaz Davies talking about his new role – It will be an interesting prospect to see the action on the other side of the fence! I believe that my seven years of experience as an official Ducati rider and the knowledge of both Ducati V2 and V4 bikes have given me the tools to be able to contribute to the future success of the team. We have excellent riders for the 2022 WorldSBK and WorldSSP Championships and I will give everything I can to maximize their potential. I want to thank Stefano Cecconi, Feel Racing and Ducati for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started! “
Stefano Cecconi, Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team Principal, expressed his satisfaction: “We are happy to be able to count on Chaz again, even if in an unprecedented role both for him and for our team. His experience will certainly be of great help to our riders, to allow them to express their full potential to the fullest. His contribution to the SuperSport project will also be fundamental for both Nicolò Bulega and the team since the Panigale V2 has the DNA of the twin-cylinder Superbikes with which Chaz has won a lot “.
